I'm Zhou Lianjie, a first-year doctoral student from Prof. Ogi's Lab. On November 25th, I went to Tokyo together with other members in our Lab., attended the 40th USE symposium, which was held in Meiji University. It was actually my first time to attend an academic conference, and I took the Shinkansen for the first time. I also got many other first times, what a meaningful day!

I got a little tired because of the travelling when we just arrived at the conference site. But I felt refreshed immediately when the oral presentation section begun. I can't help imaging what if I was the one making a presentation in front of hundreds of people, can I perform well? During the first day's conference, many excellent scientists and interesting researches expressed me deeply. To my surprise, when we (with Kevin) were strolling in the street on that night, I saw a restaurant of Lanzhou stretched noodles, which was very famous and sold only in China. So, without hesitation, we ordered it for dinner. That's it! The familiar taste!

In the morning of the second day, we listened to the reports of Nakamura san, Kevin and many other colleagues. In the afternoon, I made poster presentation. To be honest, I was quite nervous. But thankfully, it turned out that my research got a lot of attention. Around ten colleagues came to my poster and discussed further. Great thanks to Nagakubo san for taking the photo below, capturing the moment when I was explaining my research to the audience.

On the last day of the symposium, Noi san and Adachi san, who were also members of our Lab., explained their posters and researches for me. We had really happy conversation. After the conference,Matsuda san and I went to the Akihabara and Senso-ji Temple. Matsuda san recommended to me the Yokohama-Iekei-Ramen, which is said to be a very famous Ramen in Tokyo. We also ate many other delicious foods that I don't remember the names. Attending this conference is a great experience for me and we are looking forward to the 41th USE symposium, which will be held in Osaka University next year.

I was the first presenter of the second day (11/26). Needless to say, I was extremely nervous because I have never presented in such a large auditorium with hundreds of audiences. Fortunately, during the presentation, I spoke fluently. Prof. Wright asked me some questions which has been asked at ICU conference so that I can answer these questions properly. (wwww)
At night, we had dinner with some co-workers and seniors. Dr. Nurma, from Indonesia, Associate Prof. Nakamura and Adachi, and so on. It was really a good chance for us to meet seniors.
On the third day, we walked around Akihabara, buying models, and having lunch. All in all, we participated in the symposium and also experienced the interesting places in Tokyo.
